What Are Some of The Uses of Aluminum Gantry Crane?

Aluminum gantries are among the most versatile and popular types of industrial equipment in existence. They're lightweight, easy to use and cost-effective compared to more complex machinery in the same class. Here are a few ways gantry cranes can be used for various applications and industries:

Loading and Unloading Goods

Gantry cranes are used in logistics centers and warehouses to load and unload large or heavy goods from vehicles. The aluminum used in the cranes can make them lighter than other types of cranes, which can be an advantage in cases where they need to be transported to a construction site or another location. Some other benefits of aluminum gantry cranes include their ability to be easily disassembled, their resistance to corrosion, and their ability to handle large weight loads.

Material Handling And Storage

Aluminum gantry cranes are also used in manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and construction sites to move and store materials such as steel, concrete, and lumber, which cannot be handled by a forklift or other types of industrial crane. Gantry cranes have a long horizontal beam supported at each end by vertical columns. The distance between the columns is usually adjustable. An aluminum gantry crane can be moved along the horizontal beam by an operator with controls on board the crane or from a remote location. For example, a large construction site might use them to move and store building materials by lifting them onto a truck or placing them on a storage shelf or rack.

Construction and Demolition

Gantry cranes are used as part of a larger crane system—usually placed on a backhoe or excavator—to lift and position heavy building materials like beams and trusses. They're also used to lift steel I-beams, which can be particularly difficult to place using the other types of cranes because the beams are long, heavy, and bulky. The smaller size of gantry cranes makes them ideal for demolition projects like building restoration or tearing down small structures damaged by fire, storm damage, etc. Their portability makes them popular for construction jobs with insufficient space around the building site for other cranes.

Maintenance and Repair Work

An aluminum gantry crane can be used in different maintenance jobs and primarily in the automotive and aerospace industries. However, it can also lift heavy equipment in other fields, such as mining, shipbuilding and construction. Gantry cranes are often automated, but some are still operated manually by a person. In an industrial setting, the automated gantry crane will typically have its control systems programmed to limit the load lifted to a maximum value.

Offshore Oil And Gas

An aluminum gantry crane can lift loads to 1,000 tons and reach heights of over 25 stories. They're used in a variety of roles in the oil and gas industry, including unloading ships and offshore platforms and rigs, moving massive pieces of equipment into place for repairs or construction jobs, and lifting heavy tools into place for maintenance work.
